Can you vape kratom?

As kratom users, we’re always looking for new and exciting ways to ingest our high-quality kratom products. And as you might already know, there are many legitimate ways of consuming kratom. However, some reports have proposed the idea of vaping kratom, specifically through the use of kratom extracts or kratom oil.

Is it a good idea to vape kratom? Furthermore, is it even possible to load kratom into your vape pens? If no, why not?

In our experience, it is not a good idea to vape kratom extract or other kratom products. In fact, consuming kratom in this fashion might be bad for your health and overall wellness. It’s important that we understand how to ingest kratom and forget the idea of vaping kratom altogether.

Why Vaping Kratom is a Bad Idea

In a Reddit post from January 2017, user Canaloaf posted to the thread r/vaporents. This thread is dedicated to the use of vape products, vape culture, and vape trends. Canaloaf asked, quite simply: “Any experience vaping kratom?”

The responses are not what you’d expect. For starters, an overwhelming majority of fellow Redditors remarked that it’s a bad idea to vape kratom products. Others mentioned that traditional vape pens will weaken the effects of kratom.

These points were further corroborated by another Reddit post from 2018. In the 2018 thread, user Pupsoondoggo said: “Heat destroys the [kratom] alkaloids. In fact, depending on the condition and strain of the Kratom[,] alkaloids start to burn at 120 degrees.”

These are merely anecdotal reports from members of the kratom community. Remember that anecdotal reports are not backed by scientific analysis. However, these reports lend us insight into how the kratom community feels about vaping kratom. The consensus? The kratom community prefers other methods of consuming kratom, to say the least.

Side Effects of Vaping Kratom

Looking at the aforementioned anecdotal reports, we must first say that heat does not kill the alkaloids in kratom. If this were true, kratom alkaloids would evaporate when making kratom tea, arguably the most popular method of consuming kratom.

However, there are legitimate side effects to be aware of. In fact, using kratom in your vape pens could be dangerous. For starters, there are potential side effects inherent to all vape pens and products:

  • Shortness of Breath
  • Difficulty Breathing
  • Persistent Coughing
  • Nausea & Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Weight Loss
  • Chest Pain
  • Stomach Pain
  • Head Pain

In addition, vape pens and other vape devices have come under fire for safety violations in recent years. Remember when vape injuries and deaths permeated the news during 2019? Those injuries are still happening today, but this news has been overshadowed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In February of 2020, the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) released a joint report. Both government organizations analyzed 1,090 vape products. What did their report find?

  • 50% of all THC vape products were found to contain vitamin E acetate. Vitamin E acetate was responsible for a variety of vape-related illnesses and deaths.
  • 29% of all THC vape products were found to contain another diluent.

Why are we bringing up THC vapes? If you don’t already know, THC is the active compound in marijuana. It’s also a much more popular ingredient in vape pens than kratom extracts. There are very few “kratom vape pens” on the market. By drawing comparisons to more popular vape products, we can discuss the potential dangers of vaping kratom.

Why You Should Avoid Vaping Kratom Altogether

While we can make some valuable connections between the dangers of vaping kratom or marijuana, there’s more to the story. For starters, marijuana and THC are regulated in the United States, unlike kratom extracts. Because of this, you might find worse diluents in kratom vape products than you would in marijuana vapes.

Furthermore, there is evidence that unsavory kratom manufacturers do not care about your overall health and wellness. Some people simply wish to make money off the kratom industry, using kratom scams to turn a profit. You should always ensure that you have authentic kratom products to protect the efficacy of your wellness treatment.

As kratom researchers, we could not find any legitimate kratom vape products on the market. Couple this with the dangers of kratom scammers and unregulated diluents, and you should avoid vaping kratom altogether.
